Incumbent and veteran volunteer with the MVWSD, Laura contributes years of experience, solid expertise in school affairs, leadership and strong relationships.


Laura's Goals

Laura's goals include putting STUDENTS FIRST,  bolstering SOUND GOVERNANCE, and ensuring LONG-TERM STABILITY. 

Student Achievement

  • Significant gains (higher than the County overall and than any neighboring district) in student achievement , including among students in special education, Hispanic/Latino, students with disabilities and socioeconomically disadvantaged subgroups
  • Double-digit increases over the last five years in the percentage of students meeting or exceeding standards districtwide in both language arts and math


Teachers and Staff

  • Teacher retention increased by over 20%
  • Collaborative agreements with unions to raise salaries by 23% while remaining fiscally solvent
  • Innovative partnership with the City of Mountain View and a real estate developer to construct 144 units of affordable housing slated to open in 2022 for MVWSD teachers and staff members


Facilities and Budget

  • Updating of all campuses and completion of three new school buildings
  • Adoption of new master facilities plan to guide spending of $259 million bond approved by voters in March 2020
  • Top credit ratings assigned to Measure T bonds by bond ratings agencies


Equity Programming

  • Expansion of award-winning preschool program with both half-day and full-day classes with free, low cost and full fee based options depending on family income
  • Redesign of middle school master schedule to ensure every child can enroll in at least one elective course
  • Creation of new equity coach and health and wellness coordinator positions
  • Development and implementation of effective educational programs (e.g., response to instruction in differentiated groupings and co-teaching) to benefit all students
  • Sizable expansion of summer food service program and partnership with Second Harvest to serve meals to both students and seniors


​Covid-19

  • Development of robust phased reopening plan allowing for fluid segues from all-online to blended and then full in-person learning environments
  • Maintenance of fiscal reserves after three years of 19% even after purchases of PPE, digital devices to ensure every student has internet access, industrial cleaning equipment and other Covid-19 related items 
  • Dramatic scaling of summer and Covid-19 crisis food service program to serve over 1,000 meals daily to food insecure families

What is best for students drives every decision I make as a school board member taking into account students' academic, social and emotional needs. High expectations for ALL students and supporting teachers in their teaching (both in-person and remote) are fundamental for student success.




Prudent fiscal decisions that prioritize student learning and promote teacher retention are of utmost importance.  I worked hard to ensure passage of our recent bond and parcel tax ballot measures.  We need to plan carefully now for future student enrollment growth.
